Ghundus Djinang - Djaa

(Connected Beginnings)

Welcome to Ghundus Djinang-Djaa (Connected Beginnings), proudly rooted on Butchulla Country. We are passionate advocates for early childhood education, recognising it as a cornerstone for lifelong success. As stewards of this sacred land, we are dedicated to providing essential services that empower, uplift, and strengthen our community.

The program Connected Beginnings is a State Government program - with power given to the local organisations to use funding where it is needed.

Our commitment extends beyond traditional education; we are here to prepare the next generation for school and to support families every step of the way. Ghundus Djinang-Djaa is honoured to receive funding and support from the Australian Government Education Department, recognising the significance of our mission in impacting the lives of First Nations families. From 2015-2021 we worked voluntarily to support our mob, and we are grateful to be able to take our care to the next level with funding.

Focused on closing the gaps in maternal and child health, early childhood education and care, and family support, we strive to ensure that all children, from infancy to school age, are safe, healthy, and ready to thrive. Our initiatives span across preschools, schools, and receive vital support from government and local council.

Connected Beginnings is more than a funded program; it is a community-owned and led endeavor. With the Connected Beginnings grant, we have been given a voice to make sure the support given is shaped by our mob, and beliefs. This ensures that our initiatives are delivered in their own places and on Country, fostering a deep sense of community ownership.

Our Backbone teams collaborate closely with Elders, community and leadership groups, service providers, schools, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to establish a strong, purposeful approach. We are not just advocating for short-term change; we are working towards long-term, sustainable systems change within community.

Ghundus Djinang Djaa is dedicated to bringing early education and health for First Nations families to the forefront of importance. Together, let's pave the way for a future where every child is not only prepared for school but is set on a path to thrive, and where our community's health needs are met with compassion and purpose.
